Gigi Hadid Has A Badass Message For All The Body Shamers Out There
20-year-old supermodel Gigi Hadid just landed her very first British Vogue cover — but she has to say inside the magazine is an even bigger accomplishment.
You might've thought she was done battling her body shamers after her long, impassioned Instagram message to them about how she doesn't care that she's not as thin as other runway models — but she's certainly not.
With 9.3 million Instagram followers and counting, she gets a lot of love from her fans, but she also receives a ton of hate and criticism — particularly about her body. She won't let it get to her, though.
"I’m an athletic person. But I love my body because I know what it’s been through to be what it is,” she told British Vogue. “And honestly I’m not going to change for someone that is depressed about their life." Nor should she.
Hadid, who is the face of Maybelline, Guess, Tommy Hilfiger, and many other big brands, declared that she's here to stay, and that every body type deserves time in the spotlight: "The Victoria’s Secret Angels aren’t going anywhere; I’m not going anywhere; plus-sized models aren’t going anywhere," she said.
So, even though Instagram comments have been a big source of negativity in her life, she hasn't given up on the it just yet. Unlike the models who post staged, "perfect reality" type of images on the platform, Hadid is committed to keeping it real: "I don't change anything about myself — what I post just works,” she said.
"When people are different on social media than they are in real life, it becomes forced. Cara [Delevingne] was never scared of being weird."
Keep it weird, Gigi — and we will, too!
